Mollie Nye was one of two daughters born to pioneers Olive and Alfred Nye. Olive was a well liked school teacher who taught in the Roche Point School. Mollie and her sister Joyce both attended the school as students and Mollie taught there from 1933-1939. She was an innovative and dedicated teacher. As an avid gardener herself she taught her students how to grow vegetables and flowers in the school garden. She lived for many years in Lynn Valley and taught for 22 years at Sutherland Junior High School.
You can read more of Mollie’s story on the Lynn Valley Services Society website about the Mollie Nye House.
The Society acknowledges that the land of the Seymour Communities is the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We continue to learn and celebrate the culture, history, stories, and people of the Tsleil-Waututh.
