Clara Whitten Bliss and her six siblings were born and raised in the Dollarton/Cove Cliff/Deep Cove area. She started Grade One at the then brand new Burrard View School on Deep Cove Road, in the current location of Burrardview Housing.
Clara married Stan Bliss in 1957 and after a few moves purchased their home on Burns Avenue (now Panorama Drive) in 1964 and raised their family there. Always a working mom, Clara worked at Deep Cove Drugs for Geoff and Florence Mortimer, Huxham’s and Central Market. She was a waitress and cook at the Cove Inn and Amble Inn (now the Raven). She knew everyone!
Clara moved from her house on Panorama in 2017 and continued to live in the Seymour area. She is a remarkable fount of knowledge regarding the heritage of the whole Seymour area.
The Society acknowledges that the land of the Seymour Communities is the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We continue to learn and celebrate the culture, history, stories, and people of the Tsleil-Waututh.
