forestandfjord_front_coverForest & Fjord: The History of Belcarra – The Village of Belcarra runs from Admiralty Point, north through Belcarra Bay, Hamber Island, Coobe, Cozy Cove, Jug Island, Bedwell Bay, Farrer Cove, and includes Twin Islands and Raccoon Island.
The book offers a rich history from the Tsleil-Waututh, to the time it was discovered by the Europeans, all the way to present day. It is an important textbook covering this area’s rich history and at the same time a lavish coffee table book packed full of photos and maps, 536 pages in all. Published in 2013.

Ferries & Fjord - Front CoverFerries & Fjord: The History of Indian Arm, its Ferries & Docks, Travelling Post Offices & Floating Grocery Stores covers the history of Indian Arm, its ferries, docks, travelling post offices, and floating grocery stores, and brings life to this history with historical photographs which truly are ‘worth a thousand words.’

The book describes the establishment of saw mills on the inner harbour of Burrard Inlet in the 1860s and the associated settlement by mill workers. That development created a demand for logs which resulted in logging of the forests that surrounded Indian Arm, and the consequent appearance of the first European settlers on the fjord. The book also describes the granite quarries established in the 1880s to supply the building needs of the new and rapidly growing frontier town called ‘Vancouver.’ 371 pages, published in 2015.

townsitetales_front_coverTownsite Tales: The History of Ioco, Anmore Valley, & North Shore of Port Moody Arm. Did you know that the famous Captain George Vancouver may have lent his name to many places in the Lower Mainland but he also has the distinction of being the first European to hold a beach party on Burrard Inlet? Or that Admiralty Point park was almost turned into a ‘pest hospital’?
These stories and more fascinating history from Ioco, Anmore Valley, and the North Shore of Port Moody Arm are uncovered by local historian, Ralph Drew, in his new book: Townsite Tales: The History of Ioco. A follow-up to the B.C. Historical Federation and Lieutenant-Governor’s Gold Medal award-winning Forest & Fjord: The History of Belcarra, this book brings together years of historical research and passion for revealing the personalities, triumphs, and tragedies of the region. 349 pages, published in 2017.
